iPhoto Slideshow

Here is an iPhoto slideshow I made based on the VA Social Sciences SOL 2.11: The student will identify George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Susan B. Anthony, Helen Keller, Jackie Robinson, and Martin Luther King, Jr. as Americans whose contributions improved the lives of other Americans.
The slideshow includes two pictures of each person, I tried finding one portrait and one in action photo for the most part. Along with the in action photo is a description of what this person did that has improved the lives of other Americans. Hope you enjoy!

Gotta love the web

More and more teachers are expected to use the internet for their sources. I personally am a fan of this but I know we all deal with the issue of what's going to pop up while students are using the internet? Recently, I found a great website called facthound.com

It is a website "designed to provide students with the most accurate and current resources available on the Internet." Filled with information and links for other websites that have already been pre-approved, it seems like a great way to get students connected online without quite as much worry for the teacher!

Second Grade Addition

A few weeks ago I made a powerpoint complimenting a lesson on second grade addition of two digit numbers. The powerpoint is set up so that students should be able to do this on their own without needing my assistance and I can continue monitoring the rest of the class. My plan was to use this powerpoint as one of four stations. The other three will consist of an addition game, a worksheet to be used with base-10 blocks, and a journal entry where students must write an explanation for solving an addition problem, as well as draw a correlating diagram.

As always, I'd love any insight anyone else has on this!

Podcast

Wow! Here is my first podcast, finally! It is on Ancient Egypt and correlates with the VA SOL 2.1. While it was a bit of a hassle to make, I think now it should be a lot easier for all the podcasts to follow! It's a bit longer than I had intended. I got confused while using Garage Band and thought it was only at two minutes when it was really at 3 minutes already. I know it's a bit obvious that I don't have much experience with creating podcasts but now I'm at least a bit more prepared than before!
